Classes

Classes
Most Satyananda Yoga classes are offered as 10 week courses. Please contact the teacher directly for further information.

Following is a basic outline of what to expect in classes of different levels in Satyananda Yoga.

Level 1: Gentle postures, yogic breathing and deep relaxation help you develop flexibility, strength and inner peace. This course is excellent for stress management and improving overall wellbeing.

Level 2:  A continuation course that builds on the foundations laid in Level 1 as you develop classical yoga postures (asanas), breathing (pranayama) and meditation. Includes the beautiful sequence, Salute to the Sun (Surya Namaskara).

Level 3: From this level the courses are based on themes that focus on deeper aspects of yoga such as the chakras (energy centres), prana (subtle energy) and other concepts of yogic physiology and philosophy that help us integrate yoga into how we manage our relationship with daily life. More advanced practices are introduced, including mudras and bandhas, while the asanas, pranayamas and meditation practices are further developed.

Level 4: Advanced themes and the development of yoga as a spiritual way of life are the focus of Level 4. Students at this level practice regularly at home and have an interest in using the tools and wisdom that yoga offers to harmonise their external and internal experiences. This is a strong class at the levels of both body and mind.

Yoga for Pregnancy and Birth & Mother-Baby Yoga: Julia Gibson is Hobart’s foremost teacher of pre- and post-natal yoga. Her website, www.bellyblissyoga.com.au gives full details of her courses. The term dates and costs vary and enquiries need to be made directly to Julia Ph 03 6295 1026.

Meditation: Meditation helps balance the busyness of modern lifestyles. Simple meditation and relaxation techniques enable people to let go of tension, worries and restlessness so that the mind and emotions become calm and clear. The Satyananda Yoga approach is very systematic, using gentle stretching and relaxation to prepare the body and mind to sit for meditation and inner silence and peace.

Yoga for Cancer: Methods to help with the challenges that diagnosis and treatment bring, for the mind, emotions and body, in a supportive and relaxed atmosphere, suitable for those having or who have had treatment for cancer. Partners welcome.

Yoga for Mood Management: Techniques and understandings to soothe nerves, release stress and increase cheerfulness. The emphasis is on practical techniques for managing mood in daily life, including simple postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation techniques.

Yoga for War Veterans: This unique program is funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The morning includes themes, discussions, yoga practices and an all-important tea break. Veterans experience relief from chronic problems such as insomnia, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder and enjoy each other's company. Numbers are limited and referral by the Veterans and Veterans Family Counselling Service is needed.

One-to-One: Individual sessions to help you plan a regular yoga practice (sadhana) or address particular health management issues. $65 / hr. Please contact YATI for more information.
